Cake Update (boring title, I know)

While out on my walk this morning I was reminded by a friend that I hadn't posted pictures of my additions to my recent Wedding Cake. Since they are having two receptions we needed a cake that would last for both, so the big cake is actually a "dummy cake" which means it has foam forms under the fondant rather than real cake. Funny how I have told a few people that after they saw the cake and suddenly they weren't nearly as impressed with the cake, as if it makes it so much easier to do on a "fake" cake. I also thought it was humorous that I was making a "faux" cake, since that is my forte in life- faux finishing. Ha ha ha, do you see the irony? You don't? ohhhh, welll...ummmm....anyway.

Mandy still wanted to cut a cake at her receptions and although she insisted that she could just go buy something at Walmart to cut I insisted that that wasn't an option. After dreaming up some amazing ideas that failed in execution, here is what I came up with:

(Please take note of the excellent photoshop skills as to cut out the huge green soap container and large pile of dishes that SOMEONE didn't bother to take care of a 4 a.m. when she finally finished the cakes)

So there you have it!
The wedding was amazing, and my friends are off to Mexico this week!
I was too busy setting up and such to get a lot of pictures of the reception, but here are a few I was able to squeeze in...

I know the photographer got lots of pictures before it got dark, so when I am able I'll post some of those, or a link, or something!

Have a great day!

Cake Anyone?

There are days that I feel like I'm going to burst if I don't let some creative juices flow in some way.
Do you know that feeling?
It's been a bit of a tidal wave the last few days and it's so much fun! It's funny how I can go without sleep and be totally fine and happy as long as it was something I'm enjoying that kept me awake. All is right in the world today despite the chaos that surrounds me!

So what have I been doing?
Welllll, it's crunch time for Mandy's wedding that I've mentioned HERE and HERE. I've been building her cake in my mind for weeks now and finally got to put all the ideas together. Here is the picture Mandy sent me for what she would like,
just with a different color bow.

I'd like to give credit to whoever made it, but she found it on the internet somewhere and I have no idea who did it. If it looks familiar to someone out there, PLEASE speak up and take a bow!

Sorry, I don't have a tutorial for this,
and no progression photo's either.
It was just one of those creative whirlwinds that doesn't stop for photo opps! These are obviously just taken in my kitchen, with my best photographic skilzzz! Nuttin' but da best! :D

So whaddya think?
I think I got it pretty close.
I already showed it to Mandy through a text,
she approves :)

I'm off now to find me something to wear to the wedding tomorrow that doesn't make me look like an Aprilpottomus.

Romance and Chalk Paint

Do you remember my AMAZING friend Mandy?

How could you forget...right? :) Well she is getting married to an AMAZING guy...
Aaron

Aren't they cute!!??

So why am I telling you about my amazing cute friends?
Maybe because it makes me somewhat amazing and possibly a little cute because I know them??
Maybe not.

Really it's because Mandy and I have been having fun planning her wedding and the decorations.
We had this great idea and tried it our today.

See these?
Well, we have this vision. The wedding is going to be vintage and classy, just like Mandy and Aaron.
(the classy part, not the vintage part)

Did you notice my can of Old white behind them, along with a little kitchen clutter? And did you notice that I started working on the glass vase on the far right BEFORE I took the Before picture?

So After a couple quick coats of chalk paint, and then a quick clear wax and a dab of dark wax, we ended up with this...

Whaddya think??
If you saw these on a wedding table would you think that they came from a thrift store and that they only cost around $8.00 total?
We are pretty excited to paint a bunch more things, it's going to be Fabulous!

Finally, I need to introduce you to the "other" man in Mandy's life.
He's the strong silent type.

His name is Apolo Belvedere.
He is going to get a little makeover soon.
Then maybe he can find a solid woman.

(this is where you laugh a little
and appreciate my PUNNY sense of humor :)
(thanks)
